Frequently Asked Questions
- What's onComics?
-
onComics is a comics annotation system. What this means is that it allows
you to comment on and annotate any strip of any of the supported comics
(linked on the right). You can either comment on the strip as a whole,
reply to an existing comment, or highlight a specific part of the strip
to comment on. This is particularly useful for comics with detailed art
or large strips, where a particular part of the strip is of interest.
- How do I comment on a strip?
-
Simply click 'Post new comment' at the bottom of the strip page. You'll
be taken to a page where you can enter your name and your comment.
- How do I reply to someone else's comment or annotation?
-
Click 'Reply' on any comment. If you're viewing annotations on the comic,
you'll need to find the annotation you want to reply to in the comments
list at the bottom of the page. Once you click 'Reply', you'll be taken
to a page where you can enter your name and your reply.
- How do I post a new annotation?
-
Click on 'Add annotation' at the top of the strip. A selection box will
appear on the comic, consisting of a dotted rectangle with a 'handle' in
each corner, and the comment window below it. You can drag the selection
box around, and you can resize it by grabbing any of the handles and
dragging. Once the window is positioned and sized correctly, enter your
name and comment in the associated comments window and click 'Submit'.
- How do I report inappropriate or offensive comments?
-
For now, email me with a link to
the offending comment. Longer term, a 'report as abusive' system will be
put into place.
- How do I edit or delete my comment?
-
You don't. Once your comment is posted, it's there forever. Abusive or
offensive comments may be removed from the database, but other than that
there's no editing or deletion facility.
- How do I get my favorite comic added?
-
The fastest way is to email the creator of your favorite comic with a link
to onComics, and ask them for permission to add their comic. Get them
to CC the reply to me, and with
luck, I'll add it. Alternatively,
email me with a request, and if
I get time and the comic is suitable, I'll email the creator myself and
ask them for permission.
- I draw/write a comic. How can I get my comic added?
-
Email me with a link to your
comic, and I'll add it if it's suitable.
